Central odontogenic fibroma: retrospective study of 8 clinical cases

Introduction and Objectives: The central odontogenic fibroma (COF) is a benign odontogenic tumour derived from the dental mesenchymal tissues. It is a rare tumour and only 70 cases of it have been published. Bearing in mind the rareness of the tumour, 8 new cases of central odontogenic fibroma have been found by analyzing the clinical, radiological and histopathological characteristics of COF. Central Odontogenic Fibroma is a benign neoplasm of mesenchymal origin that makes up less than 5% of odontogenic tumors. There is a variation of this lesion that includes a zone of giant cells. This neoplasm is characterized by fibroblast proliferation, a component of apparently inactive odontogenic epithelium within a mature connective tissue stroma and multinucleated osteoclast-like giant cells. Clinically, it manifests as a slow-growing central lesion, which causes painless cortical expansion and may occasionally cause the displacement of adjacent dental organs or resorption. Ossifying odontogenic fibroma: A rare case report

Odontogenic fibroma (OF) is a rare benign odontogenic neoplasm that is most commonly found in the mandibular/premolar region of female patients in the second to fourth decades of life. Well-defined radiolucent lesions that may induce root resorption are normally observed. Rare variants of OF have been described in the prior literature, including references to: 1) giant cell lesions, 2) amyloid-like protein deposition, and 3) ossifying variants. Central odontogenic fibroma (COF) is a rare benign odontogenic tumor derived from the dental ectomesenchymal tissues. A 16-year-old Caucasian female patient was referred by her dentist for a radiolucent asymptomatic area associated with the crown of the impacted lower right third molar. A preliminary diagnosis of a follicular cyst was supposed. The lesion was surgically removed under general anesthesia together with the impacted tooth. Odontogenic fibroma — a case report

Abstract IThe present study outlines the case of a 30-year-old patient with central odontogenic fibroma. The tumour developed in the alveolar process of the maxilla in the area of 13–15. The study describes the clinical symptoms, the radiological image, treatment method and histopathological image of the tumour. The study also presents a one-year period of post-surgical observation.
